The Rise of the Dark Arts: A History, by Hermione Granger

I was thinking the other day about blogs and about how far you could go from blog to blog just through the links on the page. Kind of like 6 degrees of separation. Well, exactly like that. I think you could get pretty far, and meet some pretty interesting people. Someone should document that.

This weekend I saw tires that were big enough to drive my car through. Unfortunately, I didn't get to see the vehicles that utilized these tires. I doubt they are certified for our nation's highways and byways.

And I'm rereading Harry Potter right now, in preparation for the release of Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince, arriving in bookstores everywhere July 16. I was thinking the other day of when people read Harry Potter 30 years from now, how it will be. Some guy just wrote a book called "The Looking Glass Wars," which is about how Wonderland got to be the way it was when Alice arrived. It sounded really good when I read about it a few months ago. And I was thinking how cool it would be if, 30 years from now, someone wrote a book about the rise of Voldemort. I kinda wish I knew more about it right now. Like, why did Voldemort care about killing the Potters? Or Harry in particular? There were plenty of more important wizards he should have been trying to kill. I think it's because Harry was prophesized to overthrow Voldemort before he was born, so He-Who-Must-Not-Be-Named had to get rid of him. What I'm saying is, I hope these questions are answered in the next two books, or I'll be a little disappointed. Not very disappointed, but enough to mention it.

How did we get back to this?

a bloodless resurrection

I need a revival.

I am losing the war and not caring.

I feel as though the Word is slipping out of this world, either by apathy or misinterpretation.

Wandering through the desert, consumed by thirst, I am starting the drink the sand.

I wanna be a Kid Star

ok. Hi. What am I doing? My life is pretty uninteresting I think. Today I was late to work. I didn't get a "verbal warning" though. But I did conjugate congregational conscripts in the corner closet. Zing.

Our town has a new library that just opened. I haven't seen it but apparently it is so nice that it looks like a Barnes and Noble, or something. My sister said it's so nice they should sell books in it. Oh boy. Elly, the books are already free. There's no need to sell them, because you can just take them.

Batman Begins comes out tomorrow. I really want to see it, but I am working a lot right now, so I don't know if I want to take the time to do that. Hmmm. I'd have to see the late show. You should see it, it looks great. Christian Bale, Morgan Freeman, Michael Caine, Ken Watanabe, and... Katie Holmes. Seriously, with all these great actors, Katie Holmes has to be billed last, if at all.

I know her Dawson's Creek work isn't exactly amazing performances, despite our addiction to the show, but she was really good in Pieces of April, her probably only good movie to date. And now there's a chance for more greatness, as she takes on the role of Assistant DA, which may or may not be completely ridiculous.

Let's hope more interesting things happen for me to talk about.

I just took a way too long nap

I just took a way too long nap. What are you gonna do about it?

more later.

Watch and See the Ways I am a Bastard

Seeing as how Cat recently posted on the terrors of a meal with a boss, I would like to offer a comforting and humiliating story, which is more of a remark than a story.

While on my internship at the TV station, there was a night when my Aunt (the big boss of the whole place) took me to an event many of her higher-ups and friends were attending. She was kind enough, even, to buy me a drink. A Killian's Irish Red. I'd say 22 oz. Well, we are all sitting around the table and I have just gotten my beer, so I decide to take a sip. Unfortunately, for some reason I still don't understand, I inhaled instead of drank, which resulted in my choking on that Killian's Irish Red, which resulted in a sputtering and spattering that got Killian's and spit all over my aunt and most of the table. Wow.

But, everything was ok. She was more worried than embarrassed, I think. And everyone soon forgot about it. I hope. And I still like Killian's. And I haven't choked like that since, I don't think. Maybe I just learned to keep my mouth closed.

Can I tell you two things about work? The second is back to tipping, which I'm really sorry to revisit, but I think it reflects poorly on me, so it's ok.

However, the first is about my fellow associates. Why don't they do anything? No no, why don't they do anything for other people. The majority of us, including me at times, only care about getting through the shift. The less we have to do, the better. Which sucks, because then when someone has to do something that sucks, and no one helps them, they get mad. And they hate those other people. And we aren't a team at all. But I wish we were. I wish we just respected each other enough to help each other out and try and make someone else's shift just a little bit better. And seriously, why the fuck didn't you empty the mop bucket before you left for the night?

See, there it was.

Tips. Remember when I said that you should always tip and stuff? Well, I definitely still believe that. But, I feel differently about tips from blue collar and white collar professionals. This might sound... insulting to both camps, but I'm not saying it's good. I'm just saying I do it. When a blue collared worker gives me a small tip, I don't mind, because I know that they work hard for their money and they don't have as much to throw around. And when they give me an average tip, I'm grateful because they are still kind enough to give me a little more than I deserve. But when a white collared worker gives me a crappy tip, it drives me crazy, because they're wearing a nice suit, and they have their own office, and why can't they be a little nicer. And when they give me an average tip, I hardly notice.

Does this make me prejudice? I think so. However, I'm not saying that I hate white collar workers, or that I feel bad for blue collar workers. Neither is true. But sometimes I have more patience with someone who has less, and less patience with someone who has more. I'm sorry if this offends you. If I should think a different way, please try to persuade me.

A List of Things Missed

More than a week gone by with no update. But the truth is that I have been actually busy, not just lazy. I went to the zoo, took a trip to Chicago, and ate food for memorial day. I'm almost too winded to be updating even now. So, I'll just provide a bulletted list, which has been so popular lately:
  • I'd like to call Star Wars III frickin' awesome, but it wasn't. It was good, really good, but I think it's really hard to screw up such an easy storyline, so George Lucas still sucks in my opinion. We can all look back at some of the moments from this film and think "what the heck is wrong with George Lucas?" "It's because I'm so in love with you." "NOOOOOOO!!!!!!!" But other than that, awesome. Favorite moment? The death of Mace Windu was pretty good. Most disappointing? Kashyyyk. And I think everyone should agree with me. I just don't think a dozen CG Wookiees standing up and screaming is satisfying. But enough. That's the end. Unless there's the rumored tv series...
  • Advent Rising (which came out yesterday) got a less than stellar review, which makes me reconsider buying. But I don't have a job yet so it doesn't matter anyway.
  • I didn't read LT's update until today. I have not been supporting my fellow bloggers.
  • I really wanted to post "more ovaltine please!" on Cat's blog, but I restrained myself.
  • I was disappointed with SE Engine's latest album. I'm sorry, I was just expecting something more magical. Or more memorable. But, musically it's amazing, just not what I expected. Maybe I expect too much from Rem.
  • A zoo is more entertaining than an aquarium. Why? Because it's much easier to think you're interacting with land animals than underwater animals. Which is why the most fun animals at the zoo are the dolphins, sea otters, and beluga whales (I kid you not, they're huge).
  • I haven't played video games in almost a week. So much for addiction. Then again, I'm playing tonight.
  • I am hungry right now.
  • This update was kinda lame.
