Shake Those Spears

Have you heard of Helio? The phone company that's not a phone company? They sell phones that do things like surf, take pictures, integrated MySpace and Google Maps. Anyway, they're sort of like an alternate I've been thinking about. Helio has a cool phone called "Ocean" that has a full keyboard as well as a separate numeric pad. Why is numeric spelled like that? Why isn't there a b?

Anyway, I'd really like a new phone. I already mentioned this, but you know.

I saw She's the Man, the adaptation of Twelfth Night starring Amanda Bines. What I was hoping for was something akin to 10 Things I Hate About You, perhaps the best film translation of a Shakespeare play next to Ian Mckellen's Richard III (set in an alternate fascist Britain, yes you should see it). And when I say something so inflammatory, I only mean that the film was a great way to appreciate Shakespeare while also enjoying pop-ska and Seattle. You should also watch Ran ("Chaos" in Japanese), by Akira Kurosawa. Based on King Lear and set in feudal Japan. Samurai.
Anyway, She's the Man was iffy. Amanda Bines is very funny for a 12 year old, but she's not. The film lacks a comedic subtlety and maturity that would make it a lot funnier. Whatever, if tweens read Shakespeare, it's all good. Did anyone ever see O? Julia "again" Stiles and Mekhi "There's no movie" Phifer.

Oh, I forgot about The Lion King. That is definitely up there. It is a candy-coated Hamlet. There's no Uncle-Mom stuff and Nala doesn't commit suicide, but it's an amazing adaptation. Rewatch it. For realz.

Buttermilk Biscuits!

I kinda want an iPhone. Gross. Try not to think about it. Try not to stare.

Remember REM? I just thought of that song that has a lot of "Try not to..." in it. Yeah, I just looked it up. It's called "Try Not to Breathe" and it was on Automatic for the People, which I owned but can't find and therefore can't listen to right now. And now I'm thinking about Nightswimming. And these songs we grew up with.

This is an update. Read it, and weep for your future!

I am almost done with Battlestar Galactica: Season 3. It's all I have left to watch and I'm both terrified and thrilled to finish it. And then I'll experience what everyone else has already been going through, the waiting.
And almost done with The Historian. And I am so terrified and thrilled to reach the conclusion of that!

Other than that, work is long and sometimes wearying. And it's really hot here.

Video Vriday. I mean Thursday.

This is Galactica actual.

It's video posting day, brought to you by YouTube and me. I think some of you will like some of these, but I doubt all of you will enjoy any one of them.
For the Harry Potter fans, you can't go wrong with a bit of Potter Puppet Pals.
And if you like ridiculous and at times inappropriate (I'm telling you now) comedy, then you should check out Liam Sullivan. Specifically, the hot video on the internet right now, Shoes. But make sure you take the time to watch the well orchestrated semi-sequel Text Message Breakup. The real winner, that everyone should enjoy without fear is Muffins. Because seriously, sometimes you just want variety.
And then, this is me being stalked by a mime. My friend, school project, you know. It happens.

More videos as I find them.

Happy Birthday Katie

The Cavs (the Cleveland NBA team) just made it to the NBA finals for the first time in their history, which is really nice. It's like 15 years ago, only Michael Jordan isn't shutting us down every year.

I have a fear with my script. Not that it's badly written or uninteresting, because those are things that I can deal with as they come. My fear is discovering that someone has already written the same story, and even worse that they have done it better than I could. And the idea of someone reading my work and having those thoughts is worse than not liking it at all.

I always avoid volunteering information about myself unless people ask directly. Do you think that's residual shyness from 6th grade? Or is that the idea of being mysterious? All I know is that most people don't know I write or have a script. And these are three things I really really like without any idea as to why: Skyscraper architecture, ships, open spaces (water, fields). It's something I can't figure out but I'm hooked on them.

Reading The Historian might be more enjoyable for me (and you?) because I really enjoy history already, so hearing about real history in a fictional context is intriguing.
